1906 Folk Victorian in Colorado
As you can see – if not click to enlarge, this house was a mess. The prior owners had no idea what they were doing but just wanted the house to look Victorian. The color placement on this house was awful. Notice that the gable eaves don’t even match. Fortunately this house has a new owner who cares.
Scope of Work
- Correct color placement.
- New paint colors.
1908 Folk Victorian in Wisconsin
While this Folk Victorian looks great in any color combination it is important to know that it takes more than good colors to have curb appeal. Trash cans should never be visible from the street and always keep your porch neat.
Scope of Work
- New paint colors.
1873 Italianate
This is a beautiful house. Here is the before and after although the after is not what the homeowner chose. We are all brainwashed by bad architecture and bad paint colors. That’s why most of you are here. I was very disappointed that this beautiful house could not be adorned with colors appropriate to its style and period.
Instead the homeowner preferred robins egg blue with cream trim. The kind of blue that is so popular for vinyl siding. No features were accented. What do you think? Should a prize house be true to its history and architecture or the whims of the homeowner’s bad taste. Thankfully paint is not permanent.
Also notice that the porch is screened in. These screens will be removed. Although one may have good reason for screens, they should never ever be used in the front of the house unless you don’t care how your house looks.
Scope of Work
- New paint colors.
1895 Queen Anne Victorian
A great house except for the balustrade that is way too high. The white trim and white window sash just look wrong on this house. The new color schemes give this house an elegant appearance.
Scope of Work
- New Victorian colors.
1868 Martha’s Vineyard Cottage
This was a difficult house because the placement of the colors were all over the place. The idea is not to select as many colors as you can but repeat the use of the current colors so that the features they color can relate to each other.
Scope of Work
- New paint colors.
- Correct color placement.
