Shutters are the most misunderstood feature on a house that can really make a nice house look bad. When shutters are mounted correctly (which is rarely done), they provide nice sharp shadow lines around the windows which creates the charm and character that stimulates our senses.

Fake shutters mounted to the side of the window frame lack this textured appearance and create a flat bland look. However, I just discovered that it can get worse!
Painted Shutters!
These shutters are painted on the building. Not only are they the wrong size (too high and too narrow) and mounted in the wrong location, they lack shadows. This is art. Better art would have shadows painted in to appear real.
