1922 Bungalow in Florida
Notice that the porch is currently enclosed with screens. They will be permanently removed when painting begins. There are many good reasons to enclose an area with screens, one being in a buggy area in Florida. No matter what the reasons are, please understand you will NOT have any curb appeal. How do you think you would look if you wrapped mosquito netting around yourself? In the renditions I painted the screens black so not to be so distracted when choosing colors. The only color placement problem was that the undersides of the roof – eaves were painted the body color which is wrong to do.
Scope of Work
- Paint colors.
- Correct color placement.
1900 Craftsman In Elgin IL – Not a Painted Lady
Elgin Illinois, not far from Chicago has a wonderful collection of Victorian homes. Not only that, the community is very pro historic restoration. The community actually has a volunteer group that removed vinyl siding from houses in the town. The town also provides a monitory incentive to do so. Here is a link to their info. Vinyl siting removal in Elgin IL. Unfortunately what most of the homeowners in Elgin do wrong is paint all their houses and businesses like Painted Ladies. Quite a few of the houses can and should be painted that way although what I have seen looks pretty bad. Most of the housing stock should definitely be not be painted in this manner. The town has given out many awards to people who basically paint beautiful houses to look like clown houses. Color placement is all over the place without any understanding or regard for the architecture. Those issuing the awards seem to prefer lots of different colors and do not have the understanding of architecture and color placement.
The above Craftsman was an attempt to be painted like a Painted Lady. Notice that the colors do not follow the form of the architecture.
The after photo is very similar to the Before colors but the placement has been corrected. The 1900 Craftsman that is not a Victorian Painted Lady now can again look like a 1900 Craftsman.
Scope of Work:
- Correct color placement.
- New Craftsman paint colors.
1865 Second Empire in NY
The after image is done in more contemporary paint colors. The trim is an ivory not white which would look like vinyl. The alternate color scheme is done in historic colors that are correct for the period.
Scope of Work
- Correct color placement.
- Add metal roof cresting.
- Paint colors.
1951 Ranch House
This ranch house would not have had a dark window sash. Window sash and all trim would have originally been white. The body color blends in too much with the warm yellow stone and looks muddy. A contrasting color works better.
Scope of Work
- New paint colors.
