When I think of secret passages and hidden rooms, old movies with large old mansions first come to mind.
There are currently re-runs of shows like Dark Shadows . When I was younger, I would dream that someday I would have a big old house with a secret passage that I could hide in. Well now I have the old house but a hidden room is still on my to-do list.
Historic homes with safe rooms for slaves or secret panels for whiskey during prohibition – although most people think of Hollywood, these secret passages and hidden rooms can be added to any house today.
There is a company called Creative Home Engineering that specializes in hidden passageways. You would be amazed at what they can do.

Awesome information! A dual purpose bookcase would provide needed storage & still allos accesss to the private living space in our historic home. Now all we have to do is find someone with the skills to build it.

Some of the really old houses in Mt. Pleasant IA have these. My home had one and all the locks were skeleton keys. My friend has old jail cells in the basement. & this b**** from my middle school had a small tunnel hidden behind a little door in her closet.

Sweet blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News.
Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News?
I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there!
Many thanks

Wow – didn’t even know I was on there. I have no idea how this all works although I should.

Ken, you know me. We are trying very hard to find a craftsman capable of creating a bookcase door for our building. The environment here is less than “completely safe,” even a relative had a 1p break-in while the women were home. Considering we now have two granddaughters living with us, we are hopeful. The plans have been created. Now it is up to the implementation.

Hi – too bad about the neighborhood but this really does sound like a fun project. Depending the area I may know of someone for the project. If you need then email me. Good luck!
