How you paint the trim on your house will make a difference and look much better.
A lot of homeowner’s probably never thought of this, but it’s important to know.
Doing it the wrong way is probably less expensive, for the painter you are using is not a quality painter.
Even so, if you are going to do it, do it right.
The color on the body of the house (siding) should contrast the trim.
The trim takes up a small amount of space on a house compared to the body color.
For a strong looking house it is important for the trim to be noticed. When the entire trim is painted it will appear stronger.
What I mean by the entire trim is that the side of the trim must also be painted to match the trim color – not the body color.
Just painting the top flat part of the trim is lazy. Many painters will paint the side of the trim the body color but that is wrong. The result will be a house that does not look as sharp as it should.
Here of course you are looking at an angle. No matter where you are standing there will always be some trim that is visible on the side at all times. Make sure your painter does it correctly!

This happened on my house. The side reveal wasn’t very much (varied 1/4″ to 3/8″ from bottom to top of the plank) but I made the painters repaint the sides of the windows and doors and it made an incredible difference. Even when looking straight at the house where you couldn’t actually see the sides of the window trim, somehow it made a difference.

Painting all of the trim and cutting against the trim with the siding color is easier than cutting in the narrow trim edges against the siding.

I’ll add to Mr. Dorsey’s comment.
The value of having the trim sides painted is 0%.
Your HOA or anyone else is viewing the window or admiring the house from the side? Nope. They drive by. Next:
Ok so somehow any teen- aged boy gives a flying flip if the front widow trim … sides… are painted the same color when they’re lookin’ at a side or back window?? Okay, just ask them, I bet they won’t argue with your point.
Pretty sure they’d be checking to see if your house needed any caulk before the next paint job.
