Deserted buildings always have some mystery to them. Detroit has some beautiful buildings that are now in ruin.
As grave markers, these wonderful old buildings hang on to show us their age old beauty, as they slowly erode to their death.
As empty as these buildings are now, these great photographs capture the sounds and voices that still echo through their halls.
The people are gone, but the buildings still have something to say.
Now while the buildings in the link above have a romanticism to them, the homes below are just sad. Author Karen Karmon captured images through Google Street View. Streets and homes were compared showing street views from 2008 and from 2013. It’s shocking and sad to see how neighborhoods can just fade away. It reminds me of a movie when civilization dies out with remains left only for future archaeologists to discover.

Several years ago, I called a preservation group in Detroit (I’m in Alaska!) wondering if they were dismantling any of the old bungalows, etc. to sell in the manner of kit homes. No one seemed interested. Shame to see the wonderful old homes that could be saved destroyed.
